Shipping containers come in many different sizes, but most commonly they are: 8’ wide x 8’6” high x
either 20’ or 40’ long. There are also high cube (HC) shipping containers, which are 9’6” high.
Shipping Container Terminology.
There are also many other types of equipment,such as mini sets, bicons, tricons, 6’, 8’, 10’, 20’ 40’, 45’,
48’ & 53’ containers.
We can also supply high cube units, open side units, double door units and many other types, but don’t
be confused by the names as there are often many different ways to describe the same thing. For
example a 20’ x 8’ x 8’6” standard container may be called a 20’ DV (Dry Van) or 20’ GP (General
Purpose) or 20’ ISO container.
20’DD (double door) could be called a 20’ tunneltainer, which means it has doors both ends.
20’OS (open side) could also be called a 20’FSA (full side access), this means that there are doors at one
end (as normal) but also doors along one side of the container to give side access as the name implies.
20’HC (high cube) or 20’ HQ indicates that the shipping container is 9’6” high as opposed to the more
standard 8’6” high.
